Before you pour your precious time and money into an affiiate marketing niche, you must look into these three factors.
Factor Number One: How much competition is there within the niche? A simple way to find out how much competition there is works like this: search for the keyword phrase (don’t put quotes around it) on google and write down the number of results that come up. If you get under 20,000 google results, you have found a niche with very little competition, but anything with over 80,000 results is oversaturated. You’re looking for niches that still have room for competition so you’re not wasting your time competing with sites that have been established for years. You’ll want to try all kinds of longtail keyword research to determine what those good niches are.
Factor Number Two: Do any of the offers related to your winning keyword phrase convert well? This may take a bit of discussion with your affiliate marketing managaer as you figure out what offers are related to your chosen keywords, convert well, are affordable, and for which you are approved. Narrow your search down to offers that convert well and pay out enough to justify the many hours you’re going to put in promoting them.
Factor number Three: When calculating your expenses, make sure you think through what you’re willing to pay for domain name, web hosting, site development, and copywriting. It’s important that the numbers will work, but you need to make a long range expense plan since business does not pay off right away.
If after taking these factors into consideration, you feel you can’t compete with search engine ranking, you may wish to look into other ways to drive traffic to your affiliate marketing offers. Some affiliate site marketing strategies that don’t rely on search engine rankings are polling sites, forum marketing, and direct marketing techniques such as email campaigns.
